[MOBILE, AL, January 26, 2019]  -- Lettermen of the USA presented an autographed University of Alabama football to Lance Corporal, Donnie Carter, USMC (RET) (right of center) during the 70th Annual Reese's Senior Bowl. The presentation happened during a 3rd quarter TV timeout. Pictured also are the pilots who provided the national anthem flyover. The pilots, pictured here with their children, are stationed out of Pensacola NAS.

at 70th Annual
Reese's Senior Bowl

Lettermen of the USA presented an autographed University of Alabama football to wounded Vietnam Veteran, Lance Cpl Donnie Nelson Carter, USMC (RET) during the Saturday, January 26th 2019 Reese's Senior Bowl.

 

Lance Cpl Carter served in the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines, also known as "Hell in a Helmet." Carter was deployed to Da Nang, Vietnam in 1967. Most of Carter's campaign tour was spent in the bush and jungles. While serving in a Reconnaissance, Search and Rescue, and Jungle Warfare unit, Carter was hit in both legs by enemy mortar. He was evacuated to Da Nang and then to Pensacola, Florida, where military doctors were able to save both legs.
